The government of Burkina Faso is exploring collaboration with diaspora professionals to accelerate the country’s digital development.
Officials from the Ministry of Digital Transition, Postal and Electronic Communications of Burkina Faso recently met with representatives of Africa Now, a technology-focused diaspora association based in San Francisco, United States.
The delegation was led by the association’s president, Raïssa Somda, alongside electrical engineer Ibrahim Kone, who has spent nearly two decades working in the United States. During the meeting, the group introduced its activities and expressed interest in building formal ties with the ministry.
According to Kone, the visit was intended to establish institutional contact as the organization begins expanding its work in Burkina Faso. He noted that engaging with the country’s digital authorities was a natural step in supporting technology-driven development.
Although specific projects were not disclosed, discussions reportedly explored ways to support the growth of the country’s digital ecosystem. Possible initiatives are expected to be announced after further consultations.
Minister Aminata Zerbo/Sabane welcomed the engagement, emphasizing that members of the diaspora bring valuable expertise, global networks, and investment opportunities that can help strengthen innovation and technological growth.
The meeting reflects the government’s broader effort to connect with professionals in major global tech hubs and tap into diaspora talent to support national digital transformation.
