Joe Biden, the U.S. President, has appointed Ham Serunjogi, co-founder and CEO of Pan-African fintech Chipper Cash, to the advisory council on African diaspora engagement.
Serunjogi, alongside 11 other African Americans, will serve on this council until 2025.
The council is composed of accomplished individuals from various fields and aims to strengthen cultural, social, political, and economic ties between the U.S. and Africa while fostering trade, investment, and educational exchanges.
This initiative aligns with the goal of including African Diaspora communities in global problem-solving. President Biden established the council through an executive order on December 13, 2022, recognizing the importance of the African Diaspora community in the U.S. and its role in enhancing the partnership with Africa.
Ham Serunjogi, a Ugandan native, eagerly anticipates advising President Biden on matters related to bolstering U.S.-Africa relations, trade, investment, and education. The council also includes prominent members such as Silvester Scott Beaman (Chair), Mimi E. Alemayehou, Rosalind Brewer, Viola Davis, Helene D. Gayle, Patrick Hubert Gaspard, C.D. Glin, Osagie Imasogie, Almaz Negash, Chinenye Joy Ogwumike, and Kevin Young.
