Efforts to restore peace and improve security in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State have drawn commendation from the Ado Diaspora Union based in the United States.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the group praised the council chairman, Engr. Oche Sunday Oche, for implementing measures that have enhanced safety and stability, particularly in Eza, Apa, and Agila communities, which were previously affected by recurring communal conflicts.

According to the union, the area had witnessed years of violence, resulting in heavy casualties and destruction of property. However, it noted a marked decline in insecurity since the current administration introduced targeted interventions and strengthened community engagement.

The President-General of the union, High Chief Michael Otokpa, said cases of killings, abductions, and unrest have dropped significantly, describing the chairman’s approach as proactive and impactful. He also lauded the move to establish a peace and reconciliation structure aimed at addressing the root causes of disputes.

The group encouraged other local government leaders to adopt similar approaches to conflict resolution and security management.

Recent developments have also highlighted progress in tackling crime, including the conviction of suspects connected to the abduction of worshippers at a Catholic church in Ojeji community. The victims were rescued safely following a coordinated security operation.

Engr. Oche attributed the success to intelligence-driven efforts and collaboration among security agencies, which led to arrests and the recovery of weapons.

He expressed appreciation to security personnel, government authorities, and community stakeholders for their support, noting that ongoing initiatives are geared towards sustaining peace and rebuilding public trust.

Plans are underway to establish a broad-based peace committee involving traditional rulers, security officials, and community leaders to further strengthen dialogue and ensure lasting stability in the area.
