A total of 139 Nigerian migrants stranded in Agadez, Niger Republic, have been safely repatriated to the country through the assistance of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The returnees arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on the evening of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, aboard a Sky Mali flight that landed at exactly 7:57 p.m.

The return marks another milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to support citizens caught in irregular migration routes. The group consisted of 22 adult men, 52 adult women, 33 boys, and 32 girls, most of whom had been attempting to cross into North Africa under dangerous and uncertain conditions.

According to NEMA’s Kano Operations Office, the returnees were received and immediately taken through documentation procedures before being transferred to Badala Hotel for temporary shelter.

Profiling and health assessments were conducted the following day, July 30, with support from relevant partners including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), NAPTIP, the Red Cross, and immigration officials.

NEMA described the exercise as “well-coordinated and successfully executed,” reaffirming the agency’s commitment to protecting the dignity and welfare of Nigerian citizens returning home under vulnerable circumstances. The agency also reiterated its call for public awareness about the dangers of irregular migration, particularly among youth.

This repatriation exercise adds to a series of similar operations carried out in recent months, as federal authorities continue working with international partners to stem the tide of unsafe migration and reintegrate affected Nigerians into their communities
