The Ghanaian government has confirmed the rescue and return of 28 citizens who were reportedly trapped in a cross-border human trafficking operation based in Côte d’Ivoire.

Authorities said the group safely arrived in Ghana on Sunday and are currently cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to uncover those behind the trafficking network.

Government officials disclosed that the victims had allegedly been deceived with promises of relocation opportunities and better lives in Europe. The traffickers were said to have collected large sums of money from them before subjecting them to exploitation within the illegal operation.

The ministry praised the role played by Ivorian authorities, noting that intelligence sharing and collaboration between both countries were crucial to the success of the mission.

Officials in Accra also pledged to intensify efforts aimed at dismantling trafficking syndicates operating across West Africa and ensuring those responsible face prosecution.

The administration of President John Dramani Mahama reiterated its commitment to protecting Ghanaians abroad, especially citizens facing distress or exploitation in foreign countries.

The government further advised young people to exercise caution when dealing with recruitment agents or overseas travel offers that appear suspicious. Authorities urged the public to verify job and migration opportunities through official government institutions and diplomatic missions before making payments or travel arrangements.

Human trafficking remains a growing concern across parts of West Africa, with many young Africans falling victim to fraudulent migration schemes promising employment and relocation opportunities overseas.
