28-Year-Old Trafficked Nigerian Woman Set to Return from Iraq

A 28-year-old Nigerian woman, Eniola Isaac, who was trafficked to Iraq under false promises of a better life, is set to return home after enduring severe abuse, physical assaults, and mistreatment from her employer.

Isaac's plight gained attention following her plea to the Nigerian authorities for help. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), through its office in Jordan, which also oversees Iraq, intervened to facilitate her return.

In an update posted on its official platform on Thursday, NiDCOM stated, “Eniola Isaac, a 28-year-old trafficked Nigerian girl in Iraq, is expected to return to Nigeria on January 3rd with the intervention of the Nigerian mission in Jordan, which oversees Iraq."

The commission also revealed that another case involving the suspicious death of a Nigerian who traveled to Iraq for work as a caregiver is currently under investigation. The Nigerian government has demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

NiDCOM further raised concerns about the alarming trend of trafficking Nigerians to Iraq through deceitful promises. It warned against “unscrupulous agents” who lure young Nigerian women into situations of slavery and exploitation under the guise of job opportunities abroad.

The commission emphasized the need for vigilance and urged Nigerians to verify any overseas work opportunities to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
