Tinubu Heads to Tanzania for African Energy Summit

President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja today, January 26, for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.

The summit, hosted by Tanzania in partnership with the African Development Bank and the World Bank, is focused on advancing "Mission 300," an ambitious initiative to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

Over the two-day event, African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society groups will deliberate on strategies to improve energy access across the continent, with a particular focus on underserved regions, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and private sector investment.

On the opening day, ministerial representatives from participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, known as compacts. These plans detail how each country intends to achieve universal energy access within the next five years.

The second day will see Heads of State endorsing the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a roadmap aimed at accelerating progress toward the Mission 300 objectives. President Tinubu will deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the event, reaffirming the country’s commitment to universal energy access and highlighting its clean energy initiatives and strategies for integrated energy delivery across the continent.

Joining the President on this trip are Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power; Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy, and other top officials.

The President is expected to return to Abuja after the conclusion of the summit.
