Tinubu Applauds Nigerian Diaspora, Strengthens Diplomatic Ties

President Bola Tinubu has commended the positive contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora, stating that their achievements inspire younger generations and enhance the country’s global image.

The President made these remarks on Thursday while receiving Letters of Credence from four newly appointed envoys: Pasquale Salvaggio (High Commissioner of Canada), Dr. Julius Sandy (High Commissioner of Sierra Leone), Legesse Haile (Ambassador of Ethiopia), and Archbishop Michael Crotty (Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican).

The Canadian High Commissioner, Pasquale Salvaggio, praised the Nigerian community in Canada, highlighting their impact in education, sports, science, health, and business.

“The diaspora in Canada is dynamic and strong. We have Nigerians in government, business, science, and sports. We want to build the ties further,” Salvaggio stated.

Sandy acknowledged Nigeria’s historical role in Sierra Leone’s development, stating, “More Nigerians are doing business in Sierra Leone than even Sierra Leoneans. Many of my teachers in school were Nigerians.”

He also emphasized Canada’s desire to deepen its economic partnership with Nigeria, particularly in oil and gas, ICT, and agriculture.

President Tinubu expressed pride in Nigerians abroad, affirming their role as ambassadors of excellence

During his meeting with Dr. Julius Sandy, High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to regional development and stability.

“Nigeria’s investment in Sierra Leone has contributed to Africa’s progress and promoted bilateral relations,” he said.

In his discussion with Ethiopian Ambassador Legesse Haile, President Tinubu emphasized the need for African nations to collaborate on security and stability.

“Our challenge in Africa is insecurity. We do not have anybody that will bring peace to us except we work for it,” Tinubu asserted.

Haile pledged to enhance cultural ties between Nigeria and Ethiopia, noting that Ethiopian Airlines plays a crucial role in this effort.

Receiving the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Michael Crotty, Tinubu lauded the Catholic Church’s contributions to education and poverty reduction.

“The Catholic Church has done a lot in fighting poverty and promoting education in Nigeria. Education reduces ignorance and poverty,” he said.

As diplomatic relations continue to strengthen, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and supporting its diaspora in their endeavors.
