Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, has assured Nigerians that the proposed tax reform bills will soon be passed by the National Assembly. He dismissed calls from the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) urging lawmakers from the North to oppose the reforms, emphasizing their long-term benefits for the country.
Speaking on Politics Today on TVC, Jibrin praised President Bola Tinubu's economic policies, including the tax reforms, describing them as critical for Nigeria's economic survival.
“President Tinubu is giving his today for Nigerians’ tomorrow,” Jibrin said, emphasizing the reforms' potential to enhance revenue generation and distribution. He acknowledged concerns about the bills in Northern Nigeria but noted that ongoing sensitization efforts are addressing misconceptions.

Jibrin argued that while some clauses in the bills may be contentious, they are not reasons to discard the legislation. Instead, he urged lawmakers to pass the bills and make amendments where necessary.
“Many of those opposing the bills have not read them but are reacting to false narratives,” Jibrin added, stressing the importance of understanding the reforms’ objectives
He also highlighted President Tinubu's removal of fuel subsidies and cancellation of the parallel forex market, stating that these bold reforms, though painful, will positively transform Nigeria’s economy over time.
Jibrin’s remarks come amid debates over the tax reform bills, with critics alleging that they disproportionately favor certain regions. Despite the controversy, Jibrin remains confident in the reforms’ passage, describing them as essential for Nigeria’s economic growth.
