Soludo Breaks Norm, Names Airport After Chinua Achebe

Anambra state airport receives new name as a tribute to late Chinua Achebe.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has made the decision to rename the state's International Passenger and Cargo Airport in honor of the late Prof. Chinua Achebe, a distinguished novelist. This renaming serves as a heartfelt tribute to Achebe's enduring contributions to Nigeria.

Governor Soludo made this announcement during the Independence Day parade in Awka on Sunday, acknowledging Achebe as a shining but often unrecognized hero of Africa.

Soludo expressed his satisfaction in seeing many contributors to Nigeria's 1960 independence being commemorated with projects named after them, which he found deeply meaningful. However, he also observed that most of these projects were named after public officials. Therefore, his government has chosen to break from this tradition and pay tribute to Achebe by bestowing his name upon the Anambra Airport.
