Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and his wife, Layal, have been conferred with fresh chieftaincy titles in Lagos State, further cementing their recognition within the traditional and cultural landscape of the state.
The installation ceremony took place in Lagos on Friday, where Seyi Tinubu was formally installed as the Okanlòmo of Eyọ Ọba Alakẹtẹ Pupa, Laba Ẹkun. His wife, Layal Tinubu, received a complementary chieftaincy title during the same event.
Reacting to the development, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, congratulated the couple and described the honours as a reflection of service, character, and commitment to the cultural heritage and people of Lagos State.
The governor noted that chieftaincy titles are not merely ceremonial but carry responsibilities, expectations, and a call to contribute meaningfully to community development and the preservation of tradition.
The Lagos honours came just days after the couple received similar recognitions in Oyo State, where they were installed by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, in a colourful ceremony held at the royal palace in Oyo town.
At the Oyo event, Seyi Tinubu was installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, while his wife was named the Yeye Okanlomo of Yorubaland, titles that symbolise affection, unity, and cultural custodianship among the Yoruba people.
The Oyo installation attracted prominent dignitaries, including top government officials, lawmakers, state governors, traditional rulers, and senior public office holders from Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
In his acceptance remarks, Seyi Tinubu expressed appreciation to the traditional institutions and pledged to continue supporting initiatives focused on youth development, social progress, and the promotion of Yoruba values and cultural heritage.
