Sanwo-Olu Pledges Unwavering Support To Armed Forces, Honors Fallen Heroes in Lagos

Lagos State paused this Thursday to pay tribute to the men and women who have served in the Nigerian Armed Forces. Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat attended the Parade and Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Remembrance Arcade in Tafawa Balewa Square. The event served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by military personnel to protect the nation’s sovereignty.

​In his keynote address, the Governor assured the military community that the state’s commitment to their welfare is unwavering. He noted that the peace and safety enjoyed by residents are a direct result of the risks taken by soldiers on the frontlines. The ceremony was not just a look back at history, but a reaffirmation of the state's ongoing support for those currently in active service.

A significant portion of the Governor's message was directed toward the families left behind by fallen heroes. He emphasized that the government works tirelessly behind the scenes to provide for the widows and children of deceased personnel. He stated that the nation owes a debt of gratitude that must be repaid through consistent care and institutional support.

​The Deputy Controller General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, expressed his gratitude for the state’s continued intervention. He highlighted the importance of the Nigerian Legion as a statutory body dedicated to veteran welfare. Olawale noted that the support from the Lagos State Government serves as a major morale booster for both veterans and active-duty members.

The ceremony concluded with the traditional laying of wreaths, symbolizing the eternal respect of the government and people of Lagos. As the bugle sounded, the atmosphere at TBS was one of deep reflection and renewed patriotism.
