Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is under scrutiny after the star forward expressed disappointment over the club’s failure to offer him a new contract. With his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, Salah hinted that his time at Anfield might be nearing an end.
The 32-year-old Egyptian international, who has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success since joining in 2017, showed his class yet again on Sunday, scoring twice in a thrilling 3-2 win over Southampton. The victory extended Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points. However, his post-match comments overshadowed the celebratory mood.
We’re almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers to stay,” Salah admitted. “I’m probably more out than in. This club is unique, but ultimately, it’s not in my hands.”
“Salah who has netted 12 goals across all competitions this season, isn’t alone in facing contract uncertainty. Key teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also nearing the final six months of their contracts, raising concerns about Liverpool’s ability to retain its core players. If no extensions are signed, the trio will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs in January.
Despite the uncertainty, Salah remains focused on his immediate goals. “I’m disappointed, but my focus is on winning the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League this season. I love the fans, and they love me, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
As one of Liverpool’s most iconic players in the modern era, Salah’s potential departure would leave a significant void. The ball is now in Liverpool’s court to secure him or risk losing one of their all-time greats Football player
