In a significant boost to healthcare access in Nigeria, over 140 volunteer doctors from the United States and Canada partnered with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) to provide free medical services to more than 800 patients in Lagos.

According to Dr. Emmanuel Emeasoba, Chair-Elect of ANPA’s New Jersey Chapter, the outreach marked a milestone with the first-ever gastrointestinal procedures performed during the mission an achievement that expanded local medical capabilities and gave new hope to patients awaiting critical care.

The week-long mission, which took place at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Metta, offered services ranging from general consultations and life-saving surgeries to dental care, vision screenings, cardiology evaluations, and physical therapy for chronic conditions.

Beyond medical treatment, the outreach also aimed to build long-term capacity by organizing workshops for local health workers and engaging stakeholders on how to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure.

“We're not just treating illnesses; we’re investing in a healthier future for Nigeria,” Emeasoba added. “The mission’s theme ‘A Healthier Nigeria in a Healthier World’continues to guide our commitment to systemic healthcare growth.”

The initiative leaves behind not only healed patients but also strengthened partnerships for future improvements in the country’s medical landscape.
