The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched the second phase of its contactless biometric passport application system in four additional countries, United States, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil.
According to a statement released on Monday, the system will commence operations in the United States on April 11, followed by Jamaica on April 14. Mexico and Brazil will also adopt the system from April 14.
This initiative follows earlier launches in Canada on November 5, 2024, and in the UK, Ireland, and other European countries in February 2025.
The contactless passport system allows Nigerians to renew their passports without physically visiting passport centres for biometric enrollment. The application can currently be accessed via the NIS Mobile App on the Google Play Store. An iOS version is in development and will be released soon. An upgraded version of the app for both Android and iOS users is also expected to improve user experience and accessibility.

With this expansion, the NIS confirms that the contactless passport application service is now available in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, Europe, and Asia. However, it has yet to be introduced in Australia and Nigeria. A rollout date for these two countries will be announced in the future.
The NIS reaffirmed its dedication to delivering efficient and innovative services to Nigerians across the globe.
