Nigerian Bishop Tony Marioghae Honoured with Prestigious Award in the Philippines

Nigerian-born Bishop Tony Marioghae has been awarded the prestigious Icons of Change honour by Southville International School and Colleges in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant, transformational impacts in their fields.

The event drew by Filipinos, diplomats, and international guests, all gathered to celebrate figures shaping their communities. Bishop Marioghae, a well-respected cleric, author, humanitarian, and conference speaker, was recognised for over two decades of service in the Philippines, where his work has left a lasting imprint on both the religious and socio-political landscape.
Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading missionaries and arguably the most influential African figure in Asia, Marioghae is known for his dynamic teachings, advocacy for reform, and humanitarian outreach. His ministry, The Evangelical Ark Mission (TEAM) International, commands a global following, with hundreds of thousands of adherents.
Born on October 1, 1970, Marioghae studied Mass Communication and Political Science in Nigeria before earning a Master’s and Doctorate in Leadership from Northwestern Christian University in the Philippines. In 2005, he co-founded the Shine Philippines Movement with Bishop Ricardo Sio, promoting spiritual renewal and national transformation through governance reform and development initiatives.

In 2007, his influence expanded when he was appointed Special Adviser to Quezon Province Governor Rafael P. Nantes, where he played a vital role in boosting tourism and attracting foreign investments until 2010.

President, Confederation of Africa Ministers, Pastors and Churches (CAMPAC)
President, Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, Philippines (NIDOPHIL)
In 2008, he became the youngest Evangelical Pentecostal bishop consecrated in the Philippines and the first African ordained by the Councils of Bishops and Ministers Association of the Philippines (CBMAP). He currently serves on CBMAP’s board and leads its international expansion efforts.

The first Pentecostal cathedral in Lucena City (completed 2012)
A multi-million-dollar convention centre in Las Piñas (completed 2019), one of the largest church facilities in the Philippines.

His extensive humanitarian work includes food distribution, free medical missions, and scholarship programs that have enabled hundreds of underprivileged Filipinos to pursue university education. Through TEAM International, his initiatives continue to transform lives and uplift communities across the archipelago.
Bishop Marioghae hails from a family deeply rooted in service and leadership. His father, Hon. Daniel Marioghae, was a prominent human rights lawyer and political figure; his mother, Mrs. Regina Marioghae, is a gospel singer and entrepreneur; and his uncle, Archbishop Michael Marioghae, was a founding member of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.
He is married to Dr. Ernaida Cuevas Marioghae, a respected academic and former consultant to the Philippine House of Representatives. They have two daughters, Tehilah and Deborah, who are pursuing careers in law and medicine in the UK and Canada, respectively.
