The Nigerian federal government has entered a groundbreaking partnership with DAIMLAS Corp, a leading US-based technology firm, to boost technological innovation and sustainable development in the country.
Announcing the collaboration at a formal signing in Abuja, Chief Uche Nnaji, Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, revealed that the initiative is in line with Nigeria’s 2017–2030 Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Roadmap. The partnership aims to position technology as the cornerstone of national progress while bridging the gap between Nigerians in the diaspora and local stakeholders.
“This partnership is a prime example of how public-private collaboration can drive national development,” said Chief Nnaji. “By integrating artificial intelligence into our systems, we are creating opportunities that attract global investments, empower states, and elevate Nigeria as a leader in innovation across Africa and beyond.”
As part of the initiative, the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) will establish an AI Centre of Excellence, which will train Nigerians on the use of artificial intelligence and promote knowledge exchange with diaspora experts.
Olushola Odusanya, Director General of NACETEM, emphasized the importance of addressing disruptive technologies like AI, stating, “We want to bring stakeholders together, provide infrastructure, and connect with diaspora experts to guide our youth in achieving their AI objectives.”
Joseph Wehbe, CEO of DAIMLAS Corp, expressed excitement about the partnership, calling it an opportunity to make a global impact. “This collaboration will be a cornerstone for Nigeria’s scientific and technological advancements,” he said.
This initiative underscores the critical role of the Nigerian diaspora in national development, offering them an avenue to contribute their expertise while fostering a thriving ecosystem for innovation at home.
