Nigeria and Brazil have signed a landmark audiovisual co-production agreement that is set to deepen cultural ties and stimulate growth in both nations’ creative economies. The agreement marks a significant step toward increased collaboration in film, television, animation, and digital media.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian government, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, described the agreement as a bridge between two influential cultural powerhouses.
“This landmark partnership with Brazil is more than a bilateral accord – it is a bridge between continents, between cultures, and between creative economies. It affirms Nigeria’s commitment to telling our stories on a global stage and working with like-minded nations to elevate African and Afro-Brazilian narratives,” Musawa said.

The agreement enables producers in both countries to co-develop, finance, and distribute audiovisual projects with shared ownership and access to local production incentives. It also paves the way for technical cooperation, talent development, and expanded market access.
As the two largest Black nations globally, Nigeria and Brazil share a rich, intertwined history. This deal leverages that legacy to promote authentic storytelling and cultural exchange through cinema and digital arts.
Musawa noted that the agreement aligns with national creative economy strategies, including Destination 2030 and the Nigeria Everywhere campaign, which aim to position Nigerian content on the global stage and create sustainable opportunities for local creatives.
The Nigerian government expressed gratitude to Brazil’s Minister of Culture, Margaret Menezes, along with diplomatic missions and industry stakeholders who contributed to the successful negotiation. Detailed implementation plans—including a bilateral working group, joint funding calls, and exchange programmes—will be unveiled in the coming weeks
