The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has launched its 2025 Comprehensive Data Mapping Initiative, encouraging Nigerians living abroad especially in the Euroasia region to register on its data portal.
Speaking in Abuja during the launch, NiDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the importance of accurate data in improving engagement with Nigerians overseas. She emphasized that the data mapping project is a critical step toward making diaspora voting a reality, a goal the Commission has long pursued.
"Every Nigerian of voting age deserves a voice in our democratic process, regardless of where they live," Dabiri-Erewa said. She noted that the lack of reliable data remains one of the biggest obstacles to enabling diaspora voting.

She also praised the Council of Nigerian Association Presidents in Australia for supporting initiatives that strengthen ties between Nigeria and host countries.
Dabiri-Erewa encouraged Nigerians in Euroasia to showcase their contributions to national development and consider applying for the National Diaspora Merit Awards. She also commended NiDCOM’s Technology Transfer and Innovation Department for its role in driving solutions that support diaspora engagement.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador Jane Adams, described the data mapping initiative as both timely and necessary. She reaffirmed the Mission’s support for the project, aligning it with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Head of NiDCOM’s TTI Department, Abdulrahman Terab, demonstrated the user-friendly portal, assuring users of strict compliance with Nigeria’s Data Protection Regulation and top-tier data security.
Originally launched in 2021, the Diaspora Data Mapping Portal aims to collect detailed demographic information to better serve Nigerians abroad with tailored solutions like housing, mortgages, and other support services.
