NiDCOM Endorses Man O’ War Initiative to Strengthen Diaspora Engagement

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has thrown its weight behind a new initiative by Man O’ War Nigeria aimed at enhancing diaspora engagement and promoting national development.
Speaking on behalf of NiDCOM Chairperson/CEO Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Commission’s Secretary, Dr. Sule Bassi, emphasized the significance of the collaboration in reshaping Nigeria’s global image and fostering stronger ties with its diaspora communities.
“This partnership is aligned with NiDCOM’s strategic goal of repositioning the Nigerian diaspora as a vital asset for national development,” said Bassi.
He noted that Nigeria’s diaspora, estimated at over 20 million people 18 million in the modern diaspora and 2 million in the historic African diaspora represents a powerful force contributing to key sectors such as healthcare, information technology, culture, sports, and investment.

Bassi reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to initiatives that deepen diaspora engagement. He highlighted existing programs like the National Diaspora Policy, the Diaspora Data Mapping Portal, the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Summit, and the Nigerian Diaspora Mortgage Scheme as examples of the Commission’s ongoing efforts.
He commended the Man O’ War initiative as both timely and impactful, promising NiDCOM’s support in promoting unity, civic education, and national reorientation among Nigerians abroad.
The National Commander of Man O’ War Nigeria, Gbenga Adedamola, outlined the organization’s mission to combat misinformation and reshape perceptions of Nigeria through direct engagement with diaspora communities.
As part of this effort, Adedamola announced the creation of a Diaspora Command, a specialized unit within Man O’ War that will:
Educate Nigerian communities abroad on government policies and opportunities,
Foster constructive and patriotic dialogue,
Promote investment and active participation in Nigeria’s development
“Our focus is on personal engagement and honest dialogue. We aim to restore trust, strengthen civic responsibility, and ignite national pride among Nigerians in the diaspora,” Adedamola stated.
He added that Man O’ War, established by an Act of Parliament, remains committed to nurturing leadership and promoting good citizenship, both locally and internationally, in alignment with the Federal Government’s nation-building goals.
