The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Cuban Embassy in Nigeria have pledged to collaborate on fostering cultural exchanges aimed at uniting people of African descent worldwide.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, highlighted the importance of solidarity among Africans globally during a strategic meeting with the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, in Abuja.
Dabiri-Erewa emphasized that The Decade for the People of African Descent offers a unique opportunity for Africans worldwide to enhance unity and promote the continent's diversity and progress. She expressed NiDCOM's readiness to partner with Cuba in engaging the diaspora to advance cultural connections.
Ambassador Palmero underscored the significance of cultural exchanges in strengthening identities, particularly given the shared historical experiences between Africa and Cuba. She extended an invitation to Dabiri-Erewa to participate in The Decade for the People of African Descent celebrations in December, to be held in Havana and Matanzas provinces.
Palmero likened the event to Nigeria's Badagry Door of Return Festival, which honors the historical and spiritual ties of the African diaspora. She commended Dabiri-Erewa’s leadership in fostering robust diaspora engagement and expressed enthusiasm for building a mutually beneficial relationship with NiDCOM.
The collaboration marks a step forward in leveraging cultural diplomacy to unify people of African heritage globally.
