Lagos TESCOM Holds Three-Day Strategic Management Retreat

The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has commenced a three-day residential strategic management retreat for its Board and Management Staff, aimed at repositioning the Commission for improved service delivery through innovation and excellence. The retreat is taking place at the Novotel Hotel, Chevy View Drive, Lekki, Lagos.

Declaring the retreat open, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the programme as a critical turning point for the Commission. Speaking on the theme, “Rebranding the Teaching Service Commission through Excellence and Strategic Innovation,” the Commissioner noted that the initiative underscores the importance of professionalism, accountability, and strategic thinking in public service.

Mr. Alli-Balogun emphasised that teaching remains a noble profession that shapes the future of society, urging participants to embrace innovation and introspection. He identified key focus areas of the retreat to include teacher training, curriculum development, stakeholder engagement, and institutional branding, all aimed at restoring confidence in the education system.

In her keynote address, the Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs. Mopelola Victoria Peregrino, stated that the Commission must evolve beyond routine administration to become a centre of professional excellence and innovation. She stressed that TESCOM’s reputation would ultimately be defined by the quality of its decisions, efficiency of its systems, and integrity of its workforce.

She urged participants to commit to people development, process optimisation, and the use of technology to enhance efficiency. According to her, the retreat should mark a new era where strategic management, collaboration, and measurable outcomes guide the Commission’s efforts to support teachers and improve learning outcomes across Lagos State.
