The Lagos State Safety Commission, in collaboration with Help Station, recently hosted a one-day intensive emergency response training aimed at bolstering safety measures within the hospitality industry. The event, which took place in Lagos on Wednesday, brought together key stakeholders from hotels and other hospitality-related businesses.
Lanre Mojola, Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, emphasized the unpredictable nature of emergencies and stressed that preparedness is crucial for saving lives. Represented by Olubunmi Jegede, Head of Events and Hospitality, Mojola pointed out that the hospitality sector, a vital contributor to the state's economy, must prioritize the safety of its workers, guests, and contractors.
"Emergencies can happen at any time, and it’s critical that everyone in the hospitality industry is well-trained to respond quickly and effectively," said Mojola. He reiterated that the collaboration with Help Station is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all establishments have adequate emergency protocols in place.
Dr. Yewande Alebiosu, Chief Operating Officer of Help Station, highlighted the importance of building a network of well-trained individuals who can provide immediate care in the event of an emergency. The training emphasized practical first-aid skills, trauma care, and swift emergency response tactics.
“The goal is to ensure that every individual, from workers to guests, receives timely and effective care, with a focus on preserving life and preventing further harm,” Dr. Alebiosu said.
The training session received positive feedback from attendees, many of whom noted that the knowledge gained would improve their ability to handle emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in their establishments. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Safety Commission to enhance safety standards across various sectors.
