Lagos Diaspora Affairs Boss, Dr. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, Bags PhD
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs (LASDA), ESV Dr. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, has attained a new academic milestone after earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Project Management from Lagos State University (LASU).
Sanwo-Olu was awarded the doctorate on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following the successful completion of his doctoral research on diaspora engagement and construction project performance in Lagos State.
His research examined the contribution of diaspora participation to the delivery of construction projects and the wider development of Lagos State. The subject highlights the potential of diaspora investment, expertise, partnerships and knowledge transfer to support infrastructure and sustainable economic growth.
Reacting to the achievement, Sanwo-Olu described his doctoral journey as one marked by perseverance, purpose, learning and resilience. He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue his academic pursuits while serving in public office.
The doctorate adds to his broad academic portfolio. His previous qualifications include a Master of International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, a Master of Arts in Diaspora and Transnational Studies from the University of Ibadan, and an MSc in Management from College de Paris, France.
He also holds postgraduate qualifications in Public Relations and Strategic Communications from Leeds Beckett University and International Business Management from Bradford University, both in the United Kingdom.
Sanwo-Olu is an Estate Surveyor and Valuer, public relations consultant and development professional. His career has cut across professional practice, public service, communications, academia and diaspora engagement.
As the pioneer Executive Secretary of LASDA, he has been involved in efforts to deepen the relationship between the Lagos State Government and Lagosians living abroad, with emphasis on investment, partnerships, knowledge exchange and development initiatives.
His latest academic accomplishment further strengthens his expertise in areas connected to diaspora affairs, project management and development, while reinforcing his focus on applying research to practical challenges facing Lagos State.
The Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs congratulated Sanwo-Olu on the achievement, commending his commitment to continuous learning, professional excellence, research and service.
