Kano Expands Diaspora Advocacy Across Senatorial Districts

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced plans to extend diaspora sensitization efforts across Kano’s three senatorial districts to boost awareness, coordination, and economic opportunities.




Speaking at the 4th Zonal Sensitization and Advocacy Program for Promoting Diaspora Investment in Northwest Nigeria, Governor Yusuf represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Major Gen. Idris Inuwa (Rtd.) commended the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for spearheading the initiative. The event, themed "Unlocking the Potentials for Diaspora Investment in Northwest Nigeria: Opportunities, Advocacy Strategies, Enabling Policies, and Challenges," was held in Kano.




Reaffirmed Kano’s commitment to leveraging its diaspora for economic growth, highlighting the state's strengths in agriculture, mineral resources, human capacity, and an enabling business environment. He also announced the establishment of two diaspora-focused portfolios within the state government to facilitate engagement and economic prosperity


NiDCOM Chairman, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, represented by Engr. Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, highlighted the diaspora’s crucial role in Nigeria’s economy, noting over $90 billion in remittances over five years. She urged states to engage, enable, and empower their diaspora for development.



Attendees included government officials, members of the Foreign Students Association, Association of Scholars in Kano, students from Bayero University and Aliko Dangote University, and representatives from the Kano State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KACCIMA).


The Kano event marks the fourth zonal sensitization program, following similar sessions in Lagos (Southwest), Enugu (Southeast), and Bauchi (Northeast).
