Dr. Abimbola Mabogunje, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC), has officially kicked off the "Hospital Transformation Support Initiative" for the year 2026. The exercise began with high-level visits to Massey Street Children’s Hospital, General Hospital Odan, and the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital to assess their operational readiness.

The primary objective of this initiative, according to Dr. Mabogunje, is to evaluate the progress of ongoing developmental projects and identify specific areas where the Commission can provide further support. This proactive approach is designed to ensure that Lagos residents continue to receive top-tier medical care across the state’s healthcare network.
During the tour of various wards and departments, the Permanent Secretary engaged with hospital management to discuss the bottlenecks hindering progress. By identifying these challenges firsthand—ranging from infrastructure needs to staffing requirements—the Commission aims to provide targeted interventions that enhance service delivery.
This initial visit marks the beginning of a statewide exercise that will eventually cover all 26 General Hospitals in Lagos. Dr. Mabogunje emphasized that the Commission is committed to a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that every facility under its supervision meets the evolving healthcare needs of the public.

The transformation initiative aligns with the broader state goal of strengthening the health sector. By fostering a direct line of communication between the hospitals and the Commission, the HSC plans to modernize facilities and streamline processes, ensuring that “A Greater Lagos” is reflected in the quality of every patient's experience.
