Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has achieved another major milestone as her latest film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, rakes in over ₦1 billion within just three weeks of its release.
In a post on X.com on Monday, Akindele revealed that the movie is now the second Nollywood title to cross the ₦1 billion mark in the past 12 months, with a cumulative total of ₦1,034,091,220.
The film has also made history as the fastest Nollywood production to reach the ₦1 billion benchmark, accomplishing the feat in just 19 days.
Dominating the December box office, Everybody Loves Jenifa has accounted for 40% of total revenue, attracting 202,604 admissions.
Speaking on the achievement, Akindele expressed gratitude to her fans, saying, “God did! Thank you, Jenifans, for supporting Everybody Loves Jenifa! We couldn’t have gotten here without you. We’re excited for what’s to come with this massive win. Keep watching in all cinemas nationwide!”
The film’s success extends beyond Nigeria, with its international debut on December 20 earning $194,560 (approximately ₦300 million) across regions such as the UK, US, and Canada.
This remarkable accomplishment further cements Akindele’s reputation as Nollywood’s leading producer and director, with her holding the record for the top four highest-grossing Nollywood films.
Earlier in 2024, her blockbuster A Tribe Called Judah became the first Nollywood movie to hit ₦1 billion in just 21 days.
