The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced upcoming reforms aimed at simplifying the passport application process in Nigeria.
Starting from December, Nigerians will have the option to submit their passport applications online. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need to make the process more convenient for citizens and reduce the current complexity.
He also compared the Nigerian passport application process to international best practices, highlighting that only biometric capture would require an in-person visit. All other necessary information and documents can be submitted through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) portal.
The minister stressed that the days of lengthy enrollment procedures are over, and it's every Nigerian's right to experience a smoother process.
He further mentioned that efforts are being made to clear the backlog of uncollected passports, with plans to deliver passports directly to the preferred addresses of Nigerians in the near future.
