A fire broke out early Saturday morning at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, affecting the Emergency and Accident Unit and causing property damage worth millions of naira.
The fire, which reportedly started around 5 a.m. in a pediatric consultant's office due to an alleged electrical spark, prompted the evacuation of 16 patients to ensure their safety.
Omotayo Ogunleye, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed that no lives were lost and the fire was swiftly brought under control. “The fire incident was put out without any remarkable damage to the hospital. Light has been restored, and normal operations have resumed in the affected section,” Ogunleye stated
The management extended gratitude to staff, the state fire service, and others for their prompt response, assuring the public that the situation raised no cause for alarm. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
