Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, announced the Federal Government's dedication to investing in data harmonization through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
In a tweet from the official X account of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre, he assured the public that the era of multiple ID registrations will soon come to an end.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that NIMC has been tasked with the responsibility of harmonizing Nigeria's databases, aligning with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's vision to enhance the nation's identity and security infrastructure.
He stated, 'There is no need for us to have a BVN number, a Voter’s Card number, a NIN, and a Passport Number all at once. And this is why we have to work with @nimc_ng to ensure that we harmonize all these and do away with the duplications.'
By harmonizing data, information exchange among agencies will become seamless. This means that when individuals require data for a passport or BVN, it can be retrieved using their NIN, streamlining processes while reducing stress, costs, and energy expenditure."
