The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Eid-ul-Adha, one of Islam’s most revered festivals.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, via an official statement released on Monday, June 2, 2025, on behalf of the Federal Government.
“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 6th and Monday, 9th June 2025 as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration,” the statement read.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the diaspora, urging them to reflect on the profound values of sacrifice, faith, and obedience as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him). He emphasized that these values are not only central to the Islamic faith but also crucial for building a better and united Nigeria.

In his message, the minister called on Nigerians to leverage the Eid season to pray for peace, unity, and economic progress, especially as the country navigates its current developmental challenges.
“Let us all use this period to pray for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” the minister appealed, reiterating that the Tinubu administration remains committed to delivering reforms that directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed that the public holidays are part of the administration’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at reviving national pride, deepening social cohesion, and driving people-centered development initiatives.
