Nigerian author and media entrepreneur, Chimee Adioha, has called for urgent reforms in the way African migration is reported and managed. Adioha, the co-founder of Diaspora Africa, a media and research organization focused on migration reporting, stressed the importance of reshaping the narrative and improving policy accountability.
Speaking on the challenges of African migration storytelling, Adioha pointed out that migration issues across the continent are often overlooked, creating gaps in understanding and accountability.
“If there are no institutions dedicated to amplifying migration stories and documenting these events, it would mean that they don’t exist in the eyes of policymakers and the public,” he stated.

Diaspora Africa is taking bold steps to address these challenges with its AI-powered Migration Monitor. The platform tracks violations against African migrants, offering valuable data for journalists, researchers, and policymakers.
“We integrated AI to make tracking migration violations more efficient. The monitor categorizes these violations year by year, offering a centralized resource for those working on migration issues,” Adioha explained.
Adioha also underscored the critical role of storytelling in shaping migration policies. “Nothing is as powerful as lived experiences. Too often, decisions are made without considering the realities of those affected. Through our work, we aim to amplify these voices and push for actionable change,” he said.
Diaspora Africa continues to drive awareness and accountability, ensuring African migration stories are heard and acted upon at both local and global levels.
