A Florida judge has sentenced Aaron Glee to life in prison for the 2020 murders of 19-year-old Oluwatoyin Salau, a Black Lives Matter activist, and 75-year-old Victoria Sims.
Glee initially opted for a trial but later pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and kidnapping in June 2023, choosing a life sentence over the death penalty.
Salau, a student at Tallahassee Community College and a BLM activist, disappeared just days before Sims. Glee confessed to sexually abusing and killing Salau before kidnapping Sims. Both victims' bodies were discovered, with Sims found in Glee's home, and Salau hidden in a wooded area behind his rented house.
Glee attempted to flee on a Greyhound bus but was apprehended in Orlando.
Salau's tragic murder sparked outrage and discussions about justice in the Black Lives Matter movement, leading to the trending hashtag #JusticeForToyin. A viral video highlighted Salau's call for the inclusion of trans people in the movement.
Salau had also tweeted about her experiences with sexual assault and abuse before her untimely death, shedding light on the challenges she faced.
