The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has raised concern over the detention of six Nigerian tourists in Cape Verde after arriving from Senegal for vacation. Upon arrival, the group was reportedly pulled from the immigration line, accused of insufficient funds, had their phones confiscated, and were subsequently detained at an immigration deportation camp at the airport.
According to reports from the detention center, the tourists — David James Udoh, Lily Dada, Oghenero Adaware, Sherifat Abimbola Ogundairo, and Jesutomi Aina are experiencing distress and trauma, with one individual reportedly suffering from a medical condition and being denied access to medication.
NIDCOM has appealed to Cape Verdean authorities to treat the detained Nigerians with dignity and expedite their return to Senegal for onward travel to Nigeria. The families of the detained tourists, aged between 25 and 31, remain deeply worried about their safety and well-being.
The tourists had made travel arrangements through ìrìn Travels (@irintravels and @theFARAWAY_). The matter has been officially reported to Nigeria’s Consular and Migration Directorate under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for urgent intervention.
